City of Wheaton, IL
Early Garbage Pickup Thursday and Friday; City Crews Preparing for Winter Weather
- Move parked cars from the street when there is 2 inches or more of snow. In the downtown, parking is not allowed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. after 2 inches of snow to allow crews to clear roads and parking stalls.
- Please do not park on the street until the road has been fully cleared and snow has been plowed to the curb.
- Give the snow plows room. Do not follow closely.
- Do not blow, plow or, shovel snow into the street as this hinders the efforts of City crews and creates a safety hazard for other drivers.
- Priority 1: Main thoroughfares, high volume areas and potentially dangerous areas such as railroad crossings, school zones, curves, bridges, and intersections
- Priority 2: Secondary and residential streets
- Priority 3: Cul-de-sacs and dead-ends will be the last areas plowed since pickup trucks rather than large snow plows must be used

Early Garbage Pickup Information:
In response to snowfall predicted for our area, LRS will begin picking up garbage and recycling for Wheaton's Thursday and Friday routes starting at 6:30 a.m., instead of 7 a.m. Please have your garbage and recycling carts at the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on your pickup day if you are on a Thursday or Friday route. Please keep garbage and recycling carts out of the street to allow snow plows to safely clear streets to the curb.
Winter Weather Information:
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Wheaton from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, through 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, with total snow accumulations of 3-6 inches possible. City of Wheaton Public Works crews have been pretreating streets with liquid salt brine to prevent icing and will continue to respond accordingly as winter weather arrives to clear streets as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Our crews can clear streets more quickly with your help:
Please allow extra time for travel and use extra caution when driving. Snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour will require snow plows to make multiple passes to continue clearing snow. Crews will be working continuously until all streets are clear, removing snow in order of priority areas:
We appreciate your cooperation.
