Save the Date for Native Plant Sale April 26

Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Plant Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This event, hosted in partnership with the City’s Environmental Improvement Commission, the City of Wheaton, and the Wheaton Park District, encourages residents to plant native species in future landscape projects.

In addition to native plants, residents can pre-order rain barrels and composters for pickup at the sale or home delivery. Mail-in orders are due April 18 and online orders are due April 22 for rain barrels and composters. See more information or order through the Conservation Foundation. Different rain barrel models are available to help capture rainwater for use in yards, promoting water conservation. Composters provide an environmentally friendly way to process kitchen and yard waste, creating aerated compost for gardens and lawns.

The list of plants available at the Native Plant Sale is now available to preview before the sale.

Please note that cash payments will not be accepted at the sale; purchases must be made by credit card or check.

Native plants such as flowers, shrubs, trees and grasses sold are all varieties native to the area, which make them drought-resistant and hardy choices for the climate.
