City to Honor Retiring City Manager on July 20
City Manager Michael Dzugan will retire from the City of Wheaton on July 31, after serving as Wheaton’s City Manager since 2016 and Assistant City Manager since 1991. The City will host a reception at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 20 in the Gamon Room and Council Chambers of City Hall, followed by Dzugan’s last City Council meeting as City Manager at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The community is welcome to attend the reception and City Council meeting.
A longtime resident of Wheaton, Dzugan’s career has been marked by thoughtful, dedicated service and forward-thinking decision-making. During his tenure as City Manager, the City completed a $35 million revitalization of the downtown, breathing new life into the area and helping spur economic development activity. He also led the City through the COVID-19 pandemic, finding ways to provide uninterrupted service to the community and implementing tools to make City government more accessible and convenient.
“Over the past decade, Mike kept the City focused on strategic goals and long-term priorities, keeping the community in outstanding financial shape despite economic uncertainty, and achieving substantial progress in improving the City’s water, sewer and storm water infrastructure,” said Mayor Philip Suess. “Under Mike’s leadership, the level of City activity has never been greater.
“On behalf of the Wheaton City Council and the entire Wheaton community, we thank Mike for 35 years of extraordinary public service and lasting contributions toward making Wheaton an outstanding community to call home. Congratulations on a job well done.”
Prior to serving the City of Wheaton, Dzugan served as Assistant Manager in Crystal Lake, for a career in local government spanning 44 years.
