The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District has notified the City of Wheaton that, weather permitting, its crews will spray for mosquitoes during the evening of Thursday, July 16. Applications are typically made from dusk until 2 a.m. 

The application is being performed due to West Nile Virus activity and high mosquito populations.  

Residents can help reduce mosquito annoyance by: 

• Reduce: Eliminate standing water where mosquitos breed (bird baths, flower pots, tires) and fix tears in window screens to keep mosquitos out of your home. Avoid outdoor activity between dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active. 

• Repel: Apply an EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon, eucalyptus, or IR3535. 

• Report: Report areas of stagnant water or flooded yards that may produce mosquito breeding grounds at www.clarkeportal.com. Residents can also receive notifications about adult mosquito control applications or report high mosquito annoyance at the Clarke portal.
