City of Wheaton, IL
Celebrate America 250 by Learning Wheaton’s History over 250 Years

In celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, the Wheaton Historic Commission will be sharing Wheaton’s history since 1776 in a series of five installments, with a focus on 50-year increments. The first installment – 1776: A Native World – is now available on the City’s website.
This series – starting with 1776, followed by 1826, 1876, 1926, and ending with 1976 – provides a look back at how the land we know as “Wheaton” was loved, cared for, fought over, cherished, and developed into what is now our city. While these stories are short, the history of our city is vast and filled with people who influenced what we are today.
The series will be available on the City’s website, and the City will share the availability of future installments through our various communications channels, including the City’s weekly and monthly newsletters and through social media.
The commission encourages you to enjoy learning about Wheaton’s history and continue your own research into the city’s history.
