Fire Department Responds to House Fire on Wendover Lane
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, the Wheaton Fire Department and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 1400 block of Wendover Lane. Upon arrival, crews identified heavy fire present on the roof and immediately began deploying attack hose lines to the interior second floor. Crews were able to contain the fire to the attic during extinguishment.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. No residents or firefighters were injured as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental and appears to have been caused by a lightning strike on the roof.
The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by Wheaton Police Department and West Suburban Fire Rescue Alliance partner agencies (Carol Stream Fire Protection District, Hanover Park Fire Department, Roselle Fire Department, West Chicago Fire Protection District, and Winfield Fire Protection District).
The City of Wheaton Building Department was notified of the incident, and the residence was deemed uninhabitable due to significant fire and water damage.
