Winter Weather Update & Snow Operations

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Wheaton area through 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, with an anticipated total snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches and wind gusts up to 30 mph. Wheaton Public Works snow crews began salting Wheaton streets overnight and will continue clearing streets throughout the day and evening, as snow rates are expected to increase.
Important reminders:
- Once there are 2 inches of snow on the ground, there is no on-street parking on Wheaton streets to allow snow plows to safely clear streets to the curb.
- If today is your garbage pickup day due to the Thanksgiving holiday, please ensure your garbage/recycling bins are on your driveway apron and not in the street.
- Snow crews use a prioritized system, first clearing main thoroughfares, high volume areas and potentially dangerous areas such as railroad crossings, curves, bridges, and intersections, followed by neighborhood streets, cul-de-sacs and dead-ends. We appreciate your patience as crews work to safely clear all areas.
- Please do not blow snow onto the street or push it onto the opposite parkway.
- If you must be on the roads, give yourself extra time, use caution and give snow plows room to do their job.
