Saturday, 9/10: Sustainable Land Care Event, Deering Oaks Park
Visit our Sustainability staff at Deering Oaks Park tomorrow, 9/10, 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon! They will be joined by experts from Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District, UMaine Cooperative Extension, and the Maine Department of Agriculture to share information and resources on organic land care, soil testing, composting and more! City to Host 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
You're invited to join City officials, the Portland Fire Department, and the Portland Police Department this Sunday morning, September 11, for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial at Fort Allen Park. A wreath laying ceremony will be followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 AM to mark the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Read the full details here.

Save the Date! Friday, 9/16 Bikeshare Launch Celebration
Join us for an official launch celebration of Portland Bikeshare Friday, 9/16, 10:30AM at the bike station located on Commercial Street, at Dana Street.

Mayor Snyder, Interim City Manager Danielle West, representatives of Tandem Mobility, and our Bikeshare program sponsors will all be there; we’ll celebrate in conjunction with the Park(ing) Day event coordinated by Portland Downtown. 

Portland Fire Department Receives $200,000 FEMA Grant
We are pleased to announce the Portland Fire Department was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) FEMA grant in the amount of $200,409. The funds will go toward providing two separate firehouse sprinkler systems each costing $100,000; one at the Munjoy Hill Station/Cummings Center on Congress St. and another at Engine 9’s Riverton Station on Forest Ave. Read the full story here

City Welcomes New Barron Center Administrator
After a national search and an extensive interview process, the City of Portland is pleased to announce Mary Beth Daigneault as the new Administrator of the Barron Center, the City’s rehabilitation/nursing and long-term care facility. Read the full update to learn more about her.

Vital Records Can Now Be Requested Online
You can now request vital records online and have them directly mailed to you without coming into City Hall! Learn more on our website via the City Clerk.

November 2022 Election: Request Your Absentee Ballot Online
The online portal is now open to request absentee ballots for the November 8 General Election, visit portlandmaine.gov/absentee. Residents may also call the City Clerk's office to request a ballot: Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM: 207-874-8677. Please visit portlandmaine.gov/elections for additional information regarding the upcoming election. 


DPW Paving Updates and Ongoing Construction Projects

Washington Ave Sidewalk Project 
Sidewalk construction began 9/6 on Washington Ave between Oxford Street and Cumberland Avenue and is expected to last several weeks. The current and ongoing paving projects are listed on our website here.
 

Back Cove West Project Update & Upcoming Road Closure
Paving to start 9/9, weather dependent; storm drain installation starts 9/12 for two weeks. Read the full alert here.

Update: Elm Street Painting Delayed
Supply chain issues delayed the crosswalks and hatching painting on Elm Street (specialized paint products on backorder). This street will soon have proper markings to identify vehicle, bike, and bus lanes. 

Forest Ave Paving Started September 6
MaineDOT is paving Forest Avenue from Congress Street to Park Avenue.
