Holiday Season: Upcoming City Hall Closures

All City of Portland offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year holidays on Friday, December 24, and Friday, December 31. 12/10: Wreaths Across America, Portland Ceremony

Portland Police Department and Wreaths Across America (WAA) invite you to attend the Portland-area ceremony of the 2021 Escort to Arlington this Sunday, 12/12; the convoy is scheduled to arrive at Cheverus High School at about 5:45 PM. Watch this video of alumnus and WAA Board Member, PPD Officer Kevin Haley, sharing why this year’s stop is so special. 

 

12/14: New Date Added! Free Mask Pick Up for Portland Small Businesses

On Tuesday, 12/14, Portland small businesses are welcome to stop by City Hall anytime from 9:00 – 12:00 Noon to pick up masks. Recognizing that small businesses continue to incur costs associated with providing masks to customers, we’re offering support by providing free supplies of face masks to small businesses in Portland that physically interact with the public. Learn more

12/15: Join us for the District 2 Annual District Meeting
District 2 is the last District Meeting, and will take place on Zoom on Wednesday, December 15 at 6:30 PM. These meetings are your opportunity to meet your district councilor, the Mayor, and representatives from the various departments within the city. Find your district info, Zoom access, and all meeting recordings here.

January 2022: Mercy Hospital Emergency Department to Relocate

Northern Light Mercy Hospital will open their new emergency department at 175 Fore River Parkway in Portland at 4:00 AM on January 4, 2022; the existing emergency department at 144 State Street in Portland will close the same day. The new emergency department will feature a dedicated parking lot for patients, offering quick access to care. There will also be a new patient drop off area for ambulances that is covered and protected from the elements, providing increased safety, convenience, and comfort. Learn more.

Portland Translates Age-Friendly Resource Guide into Four Languages
Portland’s Age Friendly Steering Committee, working with AARP and led by the City's Office of Elder Affairs, created new versions of the Age-Friendly Portland Resource Guide translated in the four languages most commonly spoken in Portland: Arabic, French, Somali, and Spanish. View or download the new guides here.

Portland Creative Bus Shelter Initiative, Phase 2 Open Call

Creative Portland invites Greater Portland artists to submit proposals for the Portland Creative Bus Shelter Initiative. The program will fund 3-4 separate bus shelters with add-on designs to existing code-compliant shelters. Deadline: December 31, 2021, 11:59 PM. Learn more and apply here.

Lyseth Playground Renovation Project
Lyseth School Playground is a small community playground in the North Deering neighborhood, anchoring Lyseth Elementary School’s outdoor play area for approximately 500 students. Our Parks Department is preparing for a Summer 2022 renovation, when school is out of session. Learn more and sign up for updates

The Search is on for a Bike Share Sponsor
As we’ve previously announced, we entered into an agreement with Tandem Mobility, a bikeshare company with national experience, to launch a bike sharing system by the summer of 2022. Key to launching the system, however, is the ability to attract a title bike share sponsor. Learn more and share the news!

**Construction Project Updates & Traffic Alerts**

 

New: Baxter Boulevard Closure Extended, Spring 2022 

The current Baxter Boulevard Closure from Dartmouth St to Preble St, as well as Dartmouth St at Ricker Park, will remain closed until the Spring of 2022, allowing crews to continue the sanitary sewer and storm drain utility installation work up Dartmouth St to the point of the current closure. The intent is to re-open the section of Baxter Boulevard from Vannah Ave to Preble Stt and close Dartmouth St after paving plants open in April. Additional work done now will decrease the amount of time that Dartmouth St is fully closed next Spring. Learn more.   

Baxter Boulevard Traffic Impacts 

Baxter Boulevard from Payson Park to Dartmouth St is closed. Vannah Avenue is closed from Clifton St to Baxter Boulevard. This closure is scheduled to last until December 2022. Back Cove Trail is open during the entire construction project. Full details.
