Greetings from the Lytle P.D. Here are the latest updates on what happened last week. Officers handled 66 calls for service and conducted 135 traffic stops. Of those stops, 56 resulted in citations and 79 were warnings.
Two property crimes were reported last week. #1 - A suspect attempted to slip out of the H.E.B. Plus with $280 worth of ribeye and NY strip steaks. He was stopped by H.E.B. staff after passing all points of sale and fled the store. We have the license plate number of his vehicle, so our investigators will begin work on locating this bandit. The meat was recovered. #2- Also, at H.E.B. Plus, an arrest was made, and the property was recovered (see arrest #7).
Officers made seven arrests last week. #1 – An 18-year-old female turned herself in at the P.D. She had an active warrant out of Medina County stemming from a narcotics incident at Lytle High School. She was transported to the Medina County Jail in Hondo. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 25-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3- A traffic stop on the IH-35 Access Rd. resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old male for D.W.I. (Felony, w/child). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #4 – A 54-year-old female was arrested for criminal trespass; she was also charged with resisting arrest. She was transported to the Atascosa County Jail.
Here is a good stop: #5 & #6 – A traffic stop on the IH-35 access road resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old male for an active domestic violence warrant out of Bexar County. He was also charged with resisting arrest, failing to ID (fugitive from justice), and he was found to have 26 grams of meth, so he picked up a possession charge. With him was a 36-year-old female, and she was charged with possession as well, after she was found to be in possession of 14 grams of meth. Both were booked into the ACSO Jail.
There is nothing better than a shoplifting arrest at H.E.B. to finish the week off with. #7 – Officers were dispatched for a shoplifter, a 35-year-old male was taken into custody on an enhanced theft charge and booked into the Atascosa County Jail (he had a prior theft conviction out of Collin County). He had less than $50 worth of product; and it sure was an odd assortment. His attempted heist included a couple of varieties of anti-diarrheal medication, a couple of energy drinks, a Big Red, strawberry lemonade, and a pack of strawberry glazed donuts. No wonder the fellow has stomach problems.
In other news, officers responded to a residence on South Benton St. for a report of a house fire. Lytle Fire Rescue quickly knocked down the fire. Lytle Public Works and Atascosa County E.M.S. also responded. There were no injuries; the fire was accidental in nature, with the point of origin being in the kitchen.
I was up at the H.E.B. Plus on Saturday; they had a special event going on for the kids. The H-E-Buddy celebrated a birthday, too! Along with the Mayor and others, we sang Happy Birthday to the H.E.B. mascot. It is just one of the odd things one does as a small-town chief of police.
