Here I am again, with more of the same, but with a few interesting items, including a restaurant recommendation. For the week ending Sunday, July 27, 2025, … Lytle P.D. officers handled 55 calls for service and conducted 130 traffic stops. Of those 130 stops, 57 resulted in citations and 73 were either verbal or written warnings.
We did not have one single property crime reported! We are on a roll; maybe the thieves are boycotting our community for some unknown reason.
Officers made four arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on FM 2790 @ Farmer resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #3 & #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old male for possession of a drug test falsification item (synthetic urine) and a 46-year-old female for possession of drug paraphernalia. The male was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail; the female was cited and released.
Fatality Collision: On Thursday, July 24, at approximately 10:45 PM, our officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the southbound lane of IH-35 (near Bill Miller’s BBQ). It was determined that the Ford Mustang, driven by a 40-year-old male, was going northbound in the southbound lane and collided with an 18-wheeler. The driver of the Mustang was deceased, and the 18-wheeler driver was uninjured. I was out of town for this one, but our staff took care of it. Special thanks to all those who assisted: Lytle Fire, Lytle EMS, Medina County Sheriff’s Office, TXDPS, Lytle Public Works, Mayor Ruben Gonzalez, Friendly Glen’s Towing, and Pearsall Towing. I am sure there were others too. A special thanks to McDonald’s, which provided cheeseburgers and water to those “working the scene.” A personal “thank you” to Ofc. Inv. A. Lopez, Sgt. D. Lopez, Capt. M. Dear, and Ofc. J. Cortez, who was called in to assist our on-duty officers (T. Barrera and F. Reyes).
If you find yourself on 290 between Giddings and Brenham and you are hungry … stop at JW’s Steakhouse in Carmine. I was on a little road trip, and the timing was perfect to stop by this place for lunch. The onion rings looked great, but I opted for spinach as my side. Fried catfish was the special, but I went with the hamburger patty.
Area public schools will be starting soon. Lytle I.S.D. and Southwest I.S.D. start classes on Monday, August 11th. With Natalia I.S.D. starting on August 4th. Yes, our city includes not only three different counties, but three different school districts as well! While Lytle I.S.D. covers most of the city, there are areas where the kid down the street goes to a different school.
You will need to plan to take some extra time when you drive around the schools, especially as they settle into a new year. Use caution as there will be a lot of little ones out and about.
