Here is your Lytle P.D. activity report for the week that ended Sunday, July 21, 2025. Officers managed 44 calls for service and conducted 138 traffic stops. Of those stops, 51 resulted in citations and 87 were warnings.
For the second week in a row, I am pleased to report that we didn’t have any property crimes reported! How is that even possible? We ask our citizens to report all property crimes, even petty thefts. Small crimes are often linked to bigger operations, so the more information we have the better. As a bonus, it gives me something to write about.
Why don’t people report minor thefts, etc.? Well, there are lots of reasons. Here are a few, not in any order. I have used most of these myself. #1 – The cops won’t do anything about it anyway. #2 – I’m too busy to call and wait for somebody. #3 – I would be embarrassed to say my lawnmower was stolen, and I couldn’t even tell you what brand it is. #4 – It’s just easier to take the loss and go on. #5 – I'm not going to file an insurance claim because my rates will just go up (Note: They are going to go up anyway!). #6 – I think a cop is the one who took it! #7 – I don’t feel right reporting that somebody made off with my stash of high-grade marijuana (I haven’t used that one). #8 – I don’t want to report it stolen because I don’t want my wife to realize how much I paid for the item. #9 – I think it might be stolen, but I also have an idea that my deadbeat brother pawned it to buy high-grade marijuana.
There were four arrests last week: #1 – A report of a suspicious vehicle on Newton St. resulted in the arrest of a 51-year-old female. She had an active revocation of probation warrant out of Atascosa County relating to a felony domestic violence. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. for an equipment violation resulted in a 21-year-old male being cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3 – A traffic stop on Lytle-Somerset St. resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old female for felony possession of a controlled substance. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #4 – Officers responded to a report of a 5-year-old female found walking alone on Lytle-Somerset St. The child was safe, and her family was located. A routine check of the mother, a 31-year-old female, resulted in her arrest on a theft warrant out of Bexar County. She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail, and the child was released to the grandparents.
We had an interesting call on Saturday; a lady reported her vehicle stolen from the H.E.B. C-Store. To make a long story short (I’m not good at that), there were two almost identical vehicles parked outside, and one person got in the wrong vehicle and drove it home. The person reporting the stolen car left their key fob in there, and so when the person got into the vehicle, it started right up. In the end, everyone got their vehicle back, and all is good.
In other news, one of our recently hired officers, Paul Tafolla, qualified for his TCOLE (our state licensing regulatory body) Intermediate Peace Officer License. To move up with your various licenses, you need a combination of time in service and training. We currently have 12 full-time officers and 1 reserve; of those, we have 5 Master Peace Officers, 2 Advanced Peace Officers, 4 Intermediate Peace Officers, and 2 Basic Peace Officers. We strive to provide professional police service for our community, and part of this requires well-trained officers.
As always, report suspicious activity and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Until next time - Richey
