For the week ending July 6th … Officers handled 58 calls for service and conducted 38 traffic stops. Of those stops, 14 resulted in citations and 24 were warnings.
Officers took reports of 2 property crimes last week. #1 – A complainant reported that his 2024 GMC P/U was broken into, and $700 in cash was taken. He had stopped at the Hacienda Jaliscience (FM 3175 @ IH-35) for breakfast. Further investigation revealed he had just taken the cash out of a bank on the south side of San Antonio. We believe he was a victim of a “jugging.” We have had at least four of these similar crimes in the past. All originating from various banks on the south side of San Antonio. The crooks surveil banks or ATMs, and then, in our cases, the victims stop in Lytle and pop into H.E.B. or stop for a quick bite. The crooks then break into the vehicle and take the money. Yes, people tend to leave money in their vehicles. You should always be aware of your surroundings and not walk out of the bank holding an envelope that the crooks assume has money in it. I avoid being a target by not having any money. If you see me leaving a bank with a wad of cash, it probably means I switched sides and just robbed the joint. #2 – A Creek St. resident reported that all four tires on his 2006 Chrysler 300 were “slashed”. As of now, we don’t have a suspect or a motive.
There were 4 arrests last week. #1 – A 48-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication in the parking lot of the Lytle Crossing. #2 – A 25-year-old male was arrested for D.W.I. after he was initially stopped for speeding on Main St. #3 – A report of a reckless driver resulted in a 22-year-old male being cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released at the scene. #4 – A traffic stop for speeding resulted in a 41-year-old male being cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released at the scene.
Our fireworks show was another enormous success. I was concerned the rain might force us to cancel the show, as had happened before. It looked like, to me, that the food trucks did great. Everybody was having a great time, and we didn’t encounter any issues. It was a great, safe, family-friendly event! The tone was a little different this year; the tragedy unfolding in Kerr County was on many people’s minds. We knew there were many lives lost and many people still missing due to the flooding. Special thanks to Mayor Pro-Tem David Emery, who borrowed the DJ’s mic before the fireworks show and led us in a prayer for those affected by the flooding.
