Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - June 23, 2025
June 23, 2025
Greetings -
We have uploaded the weekly report to our website (www.lytletx.org/police). Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. You can reach me at our office (830-709-0277) or richard.priest@lytletx.org. A regular city council meeting will be held tonight at the Lytle City Hall (Monday, June 23rd, 6:30 PM). We will test the Tornado Warning Sirens on Wednesday, June 25th @ Noon. This isn’t our normal test date, but we have new equipment that requires testing.
Last week at Lytle P.D., your officers handled 54 calls for service and conducted 66 traffic stops. Of those stops, 25 resulted in citations and 41 were either verbal or written warnings.
There were 2 property crimes reported last week. #1 – A male and female couple made off with a basket full of items at the H.E.B. Plus. Our officers are certain we have the suspects identified. #2 – A complainant reported she left her iPhone 12 on top of a gas pump, and someone took off with it. A low-crime week, just how we like it.
L.P.D. Officers made ZERO arrests last week. I like seeing a week like that now and then. It gives us a chance to get caught up.
Please remember that the discharge of fireworks in the city is prohibited by ordinance. The fireworks show is a specially permitted event, just to clear that up. Officers will be on patrol and would prefer not to have to issue citations for fireworks violations. Contrary to the rumors, our officers don’t get a little firecracker sticker put on the side of their unit every time they write a fireworks ticket.
If you want to report illegal fireworks or need the police for any matter that requires a response (in the City of Lytle) please call the Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Office at 830-769-3434 Option #1. Their communication officers have direct radio contact with our officers. Please don’t call our office as it is not staffed 24 hours a day. In the evenings and nights, your call will most likely be sent to voicemail. The voicemails probably won’t be returned until the next day. We don’t suggest using social media to report crimes, as it will only delay the response. The Atascosa Co. Communication Officers are very well trained and know what information to collect, so give them a call. In an emergency, just dial 911.
I don’t want to sound like a broken record … but we have our “flagship event” coming up on July 4th. The annual Independence Day Celebration (AKA, the “Fireworks Show”) start at 6 PM, and there will be a DJ and food trucks. The food trucks might show up earlier. The fireworks will start when it gets dark. Free admission and parking!
Again, I will repeat myself (just as if you were talking to me in person). Door-to-door solicitors in the City of Lytle must have a permit. We see fewer of these than we did 20 years ago, but they still come around. Even if they do get a permit from the city, it is not an endorsement! It just means they forked over a few bucks (less than the cost of lunch) to get the permit. Some of these salespeople can become aggressive (permit or not), so don’t hesitate to call us. We will send out an officer to contact them. I urge you to use caution when conducting business with door-to-door salespeople. A solicitor is someone trying to sell a product or service. This does not apply to religious groups going door to door, political campaign workers, etc.
In other news … we had a “serial” shoplifter at H.E.B. that we obtained four thefts warrants on. Hondo PD. arrested her this week, she was hitting our H.E.B. Plus hard, as well as other H.E.B.s. We worked closely with their corporate loss prevention people; more charges are pending.
Lytle has been peaceful, with no protest of any kind. Everybody is too busy mowing their lawns and fighting tall weeds.
-Richey.
