Lytle P.D. Officers handled 59 calls for service last week and conducted 29 traffic stops. Of those 29 stops, 12 resulted in citations and 17 were warnings.
It looks like we had six arrests last week. #1 – A field contact with a pedestrian resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old female for providing false identifying information. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old male for D.W.I., and he was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3 – Officers arrested a 22-year-old male on two outstanding Lytle warrants. One for burglary of a building (Burger King) and one for burglary of a vehicle (Roadster Truck Stop). These were crimes that occurred in the last couple of months. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Arrests #4 and #5 get special attention. Ofc. Roger Garcia was on patrol at about 3 AM on Wednesday, June 11. He observed a vehicle pulling a trailer “all blacked out,” and pretended not to see it, and then doubled back to make the stop. After a little roadside investigation, it was discovered that our suspects had just stolen a utility trailer from a residence on Cottage St. But that is not the end of the story, the driver was a 28-year-old male who also had an active felony warrant out of Bexar Co. He along with a 25-year-old female were also found to have stolen mail and possession of burglary tools. They were booked into the Atascosa County Jail. That was good police work! As a citizen, I am grateful to have officers like Roger patrolling the streets at night while my family and I are sleeping.
Arrest #6 was the result of a traffic stop on Main St. A 42-year-old male was arrested for felony D.W.I. (3 or more prior convictions). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Our night shift officers have been carrying out a lot of D.W.I. arrests, and are doing an excellent job of keeping our streets safe.
Each officer we have is an integral part of the team; each officer has their strengths and weaknesses (they are human), but together they form an all-star team. I’m the only one that doesn’t have any strengths or weaknesses; I’m just “here for the party.”
Five property crimes were reported last week. #1 – Our stolen cargo trailer, I already provided the details on that. #2 – A construction company working at the new subdivision on FM 2790 reported that a battery valued at $400 was stolen from a generator. #3 – A complainant reported her purse was taken from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked at Bill Miller’s BBQ. #4 – A complainant reported that a key lock box was stolen from a residence that was up for sale. #5 – Officers were dispatched to the H.E.B. Plus for a report of the theft of two briskets valued at approximately $135. Crooks sure like to choose those briskets … They are easy to sell. However, I prefer not to buy meat from the trunk of a car. You know the type of transaction where it's cash only, and the guy quickly shuts the trunk when he sees a cop car.
Special thanks to our local Masonic Lodge (Atascosa Lodge #379) for hosting a first responder breakfast last Saturday. I couldn’t make it, which is probably for the best … I don’t think I could have resisted the pancakes.
The city’s 4th of July Fireworks Show is rapidly approaching. Join us for fireworks when it gets dark and food trucks. Arrive early to secure the best spots and savor the food trucks. It is a remarkably simple and to-the-point event, and it works great that way. Where: John Lott Park, When: Friday, July 4th.
We have experienced numerous events over the past month that have resulted in traffic disruptions from IH-35 to our city streets. Vehicle accidents, high water, and everything in between. Our officers have spent countless hours directing traffic. I understand this can be frustrating; it’s not exactly fun for us either. We appreciate your patience. Most people are understanding, but I have been “cussed” a few times lately. I try to respond with “drive safely” or “have a nice day.”  -Richey
