City Offices are closed today in observance of THE federal holiday, but there will be a regular city council meeting tonight (Monday, Oct. 12th) at 6:30 PM at the Lytle City Hall.
For the week ending Sunday, October 11th, 2026, … Lytle P.D. officers handled 49 calls for service and conducted 54 traffic stops. Of those stops, 18 resulted in citations, and 36 were warnings.
Officers took reports of four property crimes. #1 – Dr. Rick’s Optical (on IH-35) reported that someone filled up their dumpster with boxes. #2 – A resident on White Cap reported that a computer tablet was lent out and the person then pawned it. The tablet has been located, and charges are pending. #3 – A complainant reported they left their iPhone at Whataburger, and when they went back, it was gone! #4 – H.E.B. Plus reported that a suspect took off with $126 worth of body care products without paying. At least that thief will be able to take care of their body.
There were three arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop for speeding on Main Street resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old male for D.W.I. w/open container. #2 – A traffic stop for failing to maintain a single lane on McDonald Street resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old male for D.W.I. #3 – A traffic stop on Main Street for speeding resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old female for D.W.I. All three were booked into the Atascosa County Jail in Jourdanton.
We had a great time at our National Night Out event last week. There were over 25 local businesses, churches, and organizations that set up tables. That doesn’t include the PD and other city departments. There is no way I can mention all those who helped make this a success. A special thank you to our very own Lytle Sonic; they are a “super sponsor”! They provided and served over 350 hot dogs. The Lytle VFW helped us in the kitchen as well. We had a wide array of attendees from all age ranges. There were also a good number of elected county officials who stopped by. It was probably one of the best-attended NNOs we have had. The community center was packed to the limits.
On Monday, Oct. 19th at 6:30 PM, there will be a special city council meeting at the Lytle Community Center (19031 Priest Blvd.). It will be a public hearing on a data center’s request for “annexation and possible tax abatements”. This will be a public hearing only; no action will be taken by the city council at this meeting. This seems to be a hot topic in Texas, so now you can have a front-row seat to see how all this works. There will be plenty of free parking and clean restrooms.
The City of Lytle Annual Citizenship Award nomination period is open! Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 31st. There are several categories, including youth, adult and groups. Check out the city’s website for more info. https://www.lytletx.org/m/NewsFlash/Home/Detail/777
We all know someone who goes above and beyond to make a difference in our community. Step out of your comfort zone and make a nomination, you can contact City Secretary Paola Rios at City Hall with questions. I know what you all are thinking: “Chief, I want to nominate you. You are a true blessing to our community”. No, that is not how it works, I am an employee of the city. I get paid with your tax dollars to do my job, and I highlight myself whenever I get the chance. We are talking about the person who goes above and beyond, and while they may be in the front and center, they may also be the person who provides service and dedication from behind the scenes. You know the kind of people who avoid the spotlight, or in other words … the opposite of me. Let’s not wait until it is too late to recognize someone who has made a difference.
