Hello from the Lytle Police Department! For the week ending Sunday, August 30, 2026, your officers handled 63 calls for service and conducted 69 traffic stops. Of those stops, 34 were citations, and 35 were warnings.
There was one property crime reported last week. Graffiti was reported on a dumpster and a fence where the McDonald’s and Bill Miller BBQ properties meet.
Our officers made five arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop on Wisdom Road for speeding resulted in the “cite and release” of a 24-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 – A report of a nude man at John Lott Park resulted in the arrest of a 63-year-old male for public intoxication. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #3 – A traffic stop on Adams Street resulted in the “cite and release” of a 17-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. A 16-year-old female with him was reported as “missing” out of Atascosa County. She was returned to her parents. #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old male for D.W.I. (felony with child). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #5 – Officers responded to a disturbance at the Outlaw Seafood Bar and Grill. A 56-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication; he was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
In other news … The 2001 Ford F-150 reported stolen last week was found abandoned on Jarrett Road in Bexar County. The vehicle was returned to its owner. At about 6:00 AM on Sunday morning, officers were dispatched to Lytle Donuts for a report of a disturbance. A female was in the drive-thru and was placing her order when a male came up to her vehicle and attempted to gain entry and assault her. She drove off; in the exchange, the male fell and hit his head. Ofc. John Cortez and Ofc. A. Lopez responded and quickly took the male into custody. Due to the injury, he was released to Lytle E.M.S., who took him to the ER in Jourdanton. Officers executed a search warrant for blood. Charges are now pending. It appears the suspect was heavily intoxicated; he did not know the victim and was not from the area.
This is a good example of how important it is to remain alert to your surroundings; you never know what could happen. Who would have thought that you would be attacked for no reason at a donut shop drive-thru? I’m glad I wasn’t working that morning; I would have had a hard time resisting the urge to slip inside and grab some fresh, hot, glazed donuts (after I took care of business, of course).
It’s hard to believe we lost Dolly Parton last week; I grew up listening to her. We also lost a local legend, George Harris. When I moved to Lytle in the mid-80s, Harris Western Wear was a tourist destination. People drove from all over to shop there. He was a big employer at the time, and there is no telling how many people who can say they worked for George Harris over the years. Prior to being the Chief of Police, I owned a restaurant here in Lytle. So, I saw Mr. Harris and his many employees on a regular basis. When I became the Chief of Police in 1999, he came to me and asked if the officers needed any flashlights or any other equipment to keep them safe. He told me just tell me what you need, and I will go into the police supply in San Antonio and buy it. He would always offer his support. In his younger days, he was an Atascosa County Deputy Sheriff, so he knew the challenges we faced. Mr. Harris also served a couple of stints on Lytle City Council. I could go on and on; he was a good man. They don’t make them like him anymore.
