Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - August 3, 2026

We will be testing our Tornado Warning Sirens on Wednesday, August 5 at Noon (12 PM).
The Lytle Public Library will be hosting an indoor mini-golf event on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. This popular event will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Your snapshot of Lytle P.D. activity for the week ending Sunday, August 2, 2026: Officers handled 45 calls for service and conducted 55 traffic stops. Of the 55 stops, 21 resulted in citations, and 34 were warnings.
There was only one property crime reported last week: Twin Liquors reported that an unknown male stole a bottle of liquor valued at $26.
There were six arrests last week: #1& #2 – Officers patrolling Main St. observed a disturbance inside a vehicle (We call them rolling disturbances). The traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old male for felony possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. The 43-year-old female passenger was “cited and released” for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3, #4 & #5 – Officers patrolling the access road of IH-35 conducted a traffic stop for “no taillights”. The stop resulted in three arrests! A 35-year-old male was arrested for driving while license invalid (w/a previous conviction) and prohibited substance in a correctional facility. A 34-year-old female passenger was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and an active warrant out of Bexar County for the same offense. A 43-year-old male passenger was arrested on an active Bexar County warrant for a fraud-related offense involving a driver's license. All three were booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #6 – Officers conducted at traffic stop on Main St. for speeding. A 37-year-old male was arrested for D.W.I. (felony level) and for resisting arrest. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Lyle I.S.D. schools welcome back the students next Tuesday! The Primary School still has “outside” work going on, delayed due to all the rain we received. Please be patient with the traffic, especially during the first week or two of school. It will calm down after a while to a point where it is only moderately irritating.
The safety of our schools and children has always been a priority for our department. We work closely with both Medina County Sheriff School Resource Officers, Deputy R. Valdez and Deputy E. Lopez.
Lytle’s 75th Anniversary / Homecoming Night Parade and Street Party Event will be on Saturday, September 19. If it comes off as planned, it will be one for the record books!
Our National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, October 6th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Lytle Community Center on Main St. We will be providing food, drinks, and snacks. If your organization, business, or group wishes to set up a table, please contact me. You can email me at richard.priest@lytletx.org or call the office at 830-709-0277. We will get you on the list. If you are interested in sponsoring part of the event or providing something, then reach out to us as well.
We have two open police officer positions; we advertised for 30 days and only received one applicant! There are just so many open police officer positions these days that good applicants have lots of choices. We will find the right people; it just will take a little time. Rest assured, our level of service will not be impacted. I have already adjusted my own schedule by cutting down on watching 80s music videos while at work.
