The City of Lytle is accepting sealed bids on our 2019 Dodge Charger. Min. Bid $1,000. Bids close on July 15 at 3 PM. The vehicle can be viewed at our PD ... 15245 Hester St., Lytle, TX 78052. If someone is around, we will start it up for you. See the city’s official posting for details.
For the week ending Sunday, July 12th, 2026, your Lytle Police Officers handled 38 calls for service and conducted 32 traffic stops. Of those stops, 10 resulted in a citation, and 22 were warnings. It was a slow week.
Officers responded to only two property crime reports last week. #1 - A male attempted to steal $854 worth of merchandise from H.E.B. Plus. He left the basket and fled when confronted by store employees. Yes, one basket … $854! When I was a kid, you needed a U-Haul truck to steal $854 in groceries. #2 – Officers are investigating a criminal mischief that occurred on Huckleberry St. A person broke out the front window of a vehicle. The case is under investigation.
There was only one arrest last week. A traffic stop for reckless driving at the intersection of Main St. and FM 2790 N. resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Your city council conducted a budget workshop last Thursday. It’s that time of year again, and I appreciate all the work that the City Administrator and the Finance Director put into the draft budget to get this process going. The Mayor and City Council review the information and request additional details, clarification, justification, etc. The police department budget was simple, with no major purchases or increases. It led me to thinking, as a department head, “I want them to just give me what I ask for” but, as a longtime resident and taxpayer, I want them to do their due diligence to ensure our tax money is spent wisely. We are fortunate that the process seems to work well in our city. As always, these meetings are open to the public; I must admit they can rate high on the boredom scale unless you like hearing a lot of numbers tossed around.
The city’s next big event is our 75th birthday party; yes, the city was incorporated in 1951. It is very neat that we celebrate 250 years as a nation and 75 years as a city in 2026. Our event will be held on Saturday, September 19. It will include a nighttime homecoming parade and then a street party on Main Street, which will include live music and food trucks. It should be a heck of a night, unless we get rained out.
