Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - July 6, 2026
Monday, July 6, 2026
Greetings - We have uploaded the weekly report to our website at www.lytletx.org/police
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at our office number (830-709-0277) or by email at richard.priest@lytletx.org.
For the week ending Sunday, July 5th, 2026, your Lytle Police Officers handled 49 calls for service and conducted 58 traffic stops. Of those stops, 13 resulted in a citation, and 45 were warnings.
Our only property crime was a theft at the Roadster Travel Center; see arrest #1 for the information.
Officers made 4 arrests last week: #1 – A fellow decided to shoplift some items from the Roadster Travel Center (IH-35 @ FM 3175), by a few, I mean 78! He had ball caps, shirts, phone chargers, pens, gloves, lights… more than I can list. He made several trips in and out of the store; I guess he was stealing this stuff to resell. The 33-year-old male was arrested for Class A theft; he was just passing through. His address is in Corsicana. Interestingly, I just passed through Corsicana last week. Might I suggest the Across the Street Diner in the historic downtown area. I had lunch there; it’s a small place … but the food and service was great. I am not sure how I fit a food review into an arrest, but I did. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 27-year-old male for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. #3 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old male for manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of Marijuana. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #4 – A traffic stop for speeding on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old male for D.W.I. (felony level because there was a child under 15 YOA in the vehicle). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Capt. M. Dear and Sgt. D. Lopez attended a three-day Public Information Officer training course in Conroe last week. Part of the “Uvalde Strong” state legislation requires agencies to have trained Public Information Officers. We now meet that requirement. The class was large, with 261 attendees! All the agencies are rushing to get people trained to comply with the new law.
One strange thing I saw last week in Tyler was a darn R2-D2-like robot. I didn’t even believe my eyes; this thing had on a traffic vest and was cruising up the sidewalk on a main drag. I had to check the internet to see what that was all about. They are using them to survey the sidewalks. I guess the “city of roses” might start being called the “city of robots.” I wouldn’t mind getting something like that I could use to send stuff back and forth between the police station and city hall. My luck, somebody would steal it and take it to the scrap yard.
Our fireworks show was another huge success! There were a lot of people who joined us for America’s 250th Birthday Party! On to the next big party … The city’s 75th Birthday Party will be Saturday, September 19th. It will include a night parade followed by a street party on Main Street, live music, food, etc. Don’t miss this one; there is no guarantee we will be around for the 100th in 25 years.
A couple more quick restaurant reviews from the last couple of weeks … Angel’s Diner in McAlester, OK. Big menu, decent prices, great service. Billy Gail's in Branson; it has a big menu and bigger pancakes.
TXDOT has started working on FM 2790 N. between Lytle and La Coste. If you travel that road regularly, as I do, you can expect some delays for the next 18 months or so. The road is in rough shape, and it has been for a long time. Legend has it that when General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s army was on the way to the Alamo, they were going to take that road, but a scout reported it was too rough for the wagons and cannons to make it through.
Included in this is a redesign of the intersection at Lake St. / N. Prairie St. and FM 2790 N. Horace Fincher designed this many years ago when he was Mayor; it will require traffic on N. Prairie to stop and turn left onto Lake St. before intersecting with FM 2790. This will slow down traffic in the area and make that intersection much safer.
