For the week ending Sunday, June 21st, 2026, … Your Lytle Police Officers handled 36 calls for service and conducted 82 traffic stops. Of those stops, 37 resulted in a citation, and 45 were warnings.
There were 2 arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 43-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old male for felon in possession of a firearm. The male was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
There was 1 property crime reported last week. A resident of S. Somerset St. reported that his electric bike was taken from his residence.
So, in general it was a slow week. The call volume was low, arrests were minimal, as well as only one property crime being reported.
Our city’s 4th of July Fireworks show should be on your list of events to attend. We will kick it off at John Lott Park starting at 6 PM. Free admission and the fireworks start right after dark.
The city’s big 75th birthday party will be held on Saturday, September 19 on Main St. The event will kick off with a night parade, right after that we will close a portion of Main St. and have street party that includes live music. It’s going to be a heck of a night.
Our city was incorporated in 1951, since then many citizens have stepped up to serve as mayors, council members, and on various city boards and commissions.
I have worked with three different mayors and too many council members to remember. Interestingly, of the mayor and city council that hired me as Chief of Police in 1999, only two are still living. Mark Bowen, who currently serves as the Atascosa County Pct. 2 Commissioner and Gerry Elias, who currently serves as the city’s municipal judge. I am sure they both consider being on the city council that hired me as the highlight of their careers. They never would say it out loud, they don’t like to brag. If you are wondering how everything comes back to me, my wife often ask me the same question.
