For the week ending Sunday, June 14th, 2026, … Your Lytle Police Officers handled 45 calls for service and conducted 47 traffic stops. Of those stops, 22 resulted in a citation, and 25 were warnings.
Last week, there were four property crimes reported. #1 – A theft of copper wire was reported from the Lytle I.S.D. Primary School construction site. The copper was valued at $3,100. A suspect has been identified, and a warrant is pending. Crooks, please take notice: Our schools have good camera systems. #2 – An employee of the Hacienda Jaliscience restaurant (FM 3175 @ IH-35) reported approximately $1,200 missing from her purse. #3 – An equipment rental company reported that they dropped off two skid steers and a backhoe on First. St., that were stolen. L.P.D. determined they were swindled in believing they were delivering to a regular customer; in fact, it was a person pretending to be a representative of a company. The thieves were able to move the backhoe; and hid the skid steers in the woods near where they were dropped off. We recovered the skid steers, and the next day, the backhoe was recovered off Somerset Road with the help of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. I guess the rental company will be more careful next time; over $150K in equipment that was almost lost. #4 – Dollar General reported that a customer carried out almost $200 worth of product in a laundry basket. An employee was able to recover the product.
There were three arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop on Adams St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 17-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 - A 26-year-old male turned himself in to our officers. L.P.D. had obtained a warrant on him for tampering with a vehicle identification number. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #3 – Officers responded to Huckleberry St. for a report of an assault. A 26-year-old male was arrested for felony domestic violence. He fled the scene but was hiding in a neighbor’s backyard. Our drone was deployed, and once he saw that we had him located, he gave up peacefully. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
In other news … The Texas Rural Water Association, in partnership with the City of Lytle, will be conducting a water system survey this week. You may see vehicles making frequent stops to collect data on our water system. They will be using sophisticated equipment that I know nothing about. I assume they will be in some sort of work truck, and it should be marked, I would think.
What else is going on … The big fireworks show is on July 4th at John Lot Park. No need to fight the big city crowds, join us for a high-quality fireworks show. Free admission, free parking, and food trucks (not free!). If you do not like the show, I will personally refund your admission cost.
While we are on the topic of fireworks, the discharge of fireworks in the city limits is prohibited by ordinance. You risk receiving a citation if you choose to disregard the city ordinance. Our officers will be out in force during the holiday weekend. If you want to report fireworks violations, please call our 24-hour dispatcher at 830-769-3434 Option #1. A communications professional from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office will answer the phone and can dispatch our officers as needed. This year, we will deploy undercover officers focusing on small children using sparklers with their parents on concrete driveways.
The construction of our new water tower in Rosewood Estates is now complete; well, it is not in service, but at least it looks like a water tower now. It still needs a lot of work, including painting. I have heard the city is discussing putting a picture of me on it, like a warning to criminals to avoid our town. I do not feel comfortable with that. I never wanted the focus to be on me. The best I would agree to is me on one side and a picture of the mayor on the other side.
