Lytle P.D. activity for the week ending Sunday, May 17, 2026, … Officers handled 57 calls for service and conducted 95 traffic stops. Of those stops, 35 resulted in citations, and 60 were warnings.

Officers made 4 arrests last week. #1 – Officers responded to a physical disturbance on Bruce St. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 65-year-old male for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and having a handgun with a serial number that was altered or destroyed. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Railroad St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 34-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3 – Officers responded to a domestic disturbance on N. Prairie St. A 39-year-old female was arrested for assault causing bodily injury to a family member. She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #4 – A 70-year-old male was arrested for criminal trespass at the H.E.B. Plus. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
There were 3 property crimes reported. #1 – Lytle Learning Center reported criminal mischief. It appeared that someone had jumped over the fence and overturned all the playground equipment. #2 – Burglary of a vehicle X4 on First St. An unknown person or persons entered 4 unsecured vehicles (3 at the same residence) and rifled through them. A vehicle title was stolen from one vehicle; another vehicle had a cell phone and a garage opener stolen. The victim stated the cell phone didn’t work, and they don’t have a garage. It sounds like the work of a kid to me, not the work of a seasoned car burglar. #3 – The Dollar General reported criminal mischief; an unknown person flipped over all the shopping carts and left them in the parking lot. It looks like we have someone who has too much time on their hands.
On Saturday, May 16th, at approximately 10:20 PM, Lytle P.D. officers were dispatched to John Lott Park for a report of an attempted child abduction. Officers R. Garcia and P. Tafolla quickly responded to the scene and ensured that the children were okay. From there, they set out to find the alleged suspect. Within minutes, they had located the alleged suspect at his residence and detained him; he fully cooperated with us. Sgt. D. Lopez and I responded to the scene to assist. The alleged victims were interviewed. Officers then determined that no offense occurred; there was no physical or verbal contact to indicate a crime had occurred or was about to occur. The detained person was released. We take calls like this very seriously and always investigate them very thoroughly. I am very proud of the quick response from Officers Garcia and Tafolla. Their ability to locate and detain the alleged suspect so quickly was amazing.
I was gone most of last week. I took a vacation and headed west with my son for his senior trip. We flew into Phoenix and drove over to Palm Springs in California. We stayed busy and covered a lot of ground. We drove over to the San Bernardino National Forest and visited Big Bear Lake. We hiked a little, and we even went kayaking (a first for me). I had no intention of doing it, my son ran into a place to see what it cost … I waited in the car and conjured up excuses why I couldn’t, but he had me figured out! He went ahead and paid for it, and off we went! It was fun. From there, it was straight to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. I was less excited about this than kayaking (I’m afraid of heights, and I am not a swimmer). Up the mountain we went. If you haven’t been, check it out. The view from the top was impressive. We also visited the Palm Springs Air Museum that we just happened upon it. I highly recommend it. We spent some time dining and shopping in downtown Palm Springs, did some more hiking, and drove around and looked at old houses that celebrities from the good old days once lived in. We finished out the trip with a little hiking at Joshua Tree National Park. It was a great time … father-son bonding and spending!
While at the airport in San Antonio, I noticed they played a message from the San Antonio mayor. Then at the airport in Phoenix I heard a message played over the intercom from various council members. It gave me an idea. We don’t have an airport, but maybe we could get a recording of the mayor, and every time you walk into City Hall, a message would start to play. Maybe “Hello, I am Mayor Ruben Gonzalez  Welcome to the City of Lytle, whether you are here to pay a ticket or pay your utility bill, I hope you enjoy your visit.” He would probably want to throw in a “Go Pirates” too! You could rotate through the various alderpersons to keep people interested. I wouldn’t want to waste a lot of money on this project; maybe just get a cassette recorder (do they still make those?) and have whoever is working the front counter just push the play button when somebody walks in.
