You can reach me at our office number (830-709-0277) or by email at richard.priest@lytletx.org. Our monthly siren test will be Wednesday, May 6th at Noon.
For the week ending May 3, 2026, … Officers handled 56 calls for service and conducted 110 traffic stops. Of those stops, 58 resulted in citations and 52 were warnings.
There were only two property crimes reported last week. Both were shoplifting cases at the H.E.B. Plus, see the arrest section below for more info.
Officers made four arrests last week: #1 – Officers responded to a disturbance on N. Benton St. It resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old female on an active warrant for criminal trespass out of Bexar County. She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #2 & #3 – Officers responded to the H.E.B. Plus for a report of two active shoplifters. A 20-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were cited and released for class C theft (<$100). They almost got away with some margarita mix, a “buzz ball” (alcoholic drink) and two bottles of BBQ rub. Side note: I didn’t realize how expensive BBQ rub and the various spices had become. I never imagined that being a hot commodity on the stolen goods market. A large part of my net worth is probably in my spice rack at home. #4 – A traffic stop by Ofc. John Cortez on Railroad St. resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old male. He was originally stopped for an expired motor vehicle registration certificate, during the contact the officer located 95 grams of methamphetamine along with paraphernalia used in selling the drug. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail on a first-degree felony. Ofc. J. Cortez was assisted by Capt. M. Dear. That is a great arrest! They say we can’t win the war on drugs, but we aren’t going to give up the fight.
I recently spoke with a resident who received a letter from an official sounding organization requesting donations. They imply the money goes to your local police department … by simply inserting the name of your police based on your mailing address. While I am sure there are some legitimate organizations, I would suggest you not send any money without checking them out. You can always stop by the police station, and we can look at it. I know the Sheriff’s Association of Texas is a legitimate organization and they mail out letters occasionally. The Lytle Police Department does not solicit donations. Now, if you win the lottery and want to throw a few bucks our way. I am sure we can arrange something. I am thinking for $5,000 we could dedicate the lobby restroom in your name. That is just a starting point, the options are endless.
The rain has been nice, so now we hear the hum of the lawn mowers that seem to have been silent for so long. That’s as close to a poem as you will get from me. Speaking of the weather …
If you have not signed up to receive alerts from the city now is a good time to do so. Visit our website Lytle Emergency Alert Sign Up It will give you options on what to sign up for, I suggest you just check all of them. We don’t send out a lot of messages. Normally just one per week unless something is going on. Our messages aren’t like the ones you get from everyone else. We never have 25% off your water bill, or Memorial Day sales, etc.
