Last week at Lytle P.D. … Officers handled 45 calls for service and conducted 59 traffic stops. Of those stops, 20 resulted in citations, and 39 were warnings.
There were two property crimes / lost property reports last week: A vehicle door was “keyed” at the H.E.B. Plus parking lot. #2- A complainant also reported that she lost a solid gold “boot” shaped ring somewhere in Lytle.
We had five arrests last week (not counting our warrant round-up – see below). #1 – A 15-year-old female was cited and released for assault by contact. The incident occurred in the H.E.B. C-Store parking lot.  #2 & #3 – A disturbance inside the H.E.B. Plus resulted in an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old female being cited and released for disorderly conduct -fighting in public. #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old male for a warrant out of Bexar Co. for Failure to Appear (original charge – possession of Marijuana). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #5 – A field contact resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old female for failure to ID – fugitive from justice. She provided a false name; it was determined she had a parole warrant out of Austin, the original charge was “Injury to the elderly with bodily injury”. She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
What else is going on? … April 25–27, 2026, is the annual sales tax-free weekend for emergency preparation supplies. Flashlights, batteries, portable generators, etc. can be purchased tax-free. This is a good time to restock your emergency supplies. Visit the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website for more information and details. Here is a link TX Comptroller Tax Free Weekend for Emergency Supplies
Mayor Gonzalez informed me that Dr. Tate, our current Assistant. Superintendent at Lytle I.S.D. is headed off to Blanco I.S.D. to become their next Superintendent.  Can you blame her? Blanco has a Dairy Queen! I don’t know if that is the main reason she is going up there, but I am sure it is pretty close to the top.
On Saturday, the Lytle Police Dept., in conjunction with the Lytle Municipal Court, conducted a warrant round-up. The vast majority of these warrants were for violators who failed to show for court on traffic tickets. There were nine Lytle P.D. officers, with 4 two-person teams and one as a bailiff, who were involved in the operation. Officers visited around 75-100 locations. The end result was that 22 people were arrested in the field or turned themselves in after finding out officers were looking for them. We cleared 110 warrants! Yes, some people had a lot of warrants.  In the end, nobody went to jail, and the court collected about $17,000.  I am sure the court staff will be busy as people call in this week. We left a lot of messages and notes at houses and with their family members. Special thanks to Ofc. Roger Garcia and Sgt. Mark Montgomery their team made the most contacts and brought in the most wanted people.
Our next big city event will be on July 4th. Our big fireworks show at John Lott Park this year will fall on a Saturday, so I am expecting an extra-large crowd.  The fireworks start a little after dark. Plan on getting there early to get a good spot. As always, there is no charge for entry or parking!
September 19th will be the city’s big 75th anniversary birthday bash/homecoming night parade. The city has survived some challenging times. Take Y2K, for example. We thought that all the computers would shut down and the world might end when we rang in 2000 on New Year's Eve.  But we still had a big event at the community center. Richard Hailey (remember the Pig Stand Restaurants?) played music for us that night. Prior to that evening, the mayor at the time had me fill six gas cans and store them at my house. I guess if everything crashed, we would at least have 30 gallons of gas for the police cars. We rolled in to January 1, 2000, without a hitch. I spent the next several days having the officers stop by my house so I could top off the patrol cars with the gas stash.
