Greetings -
Monday, March 23, 2026, we have uploaded the weekly report to our website www.lytletx.org/police
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach me at our office number (830-709-0277) or by email at richard.priest@lytletx.org. There will be a regular city council meeting tonight (6:30PM) at Lytle City Hall!

For the week ending Sunday, March 22, 2026, Lytle P.D. officers handled 57 calls for service. Officers conducted 88 traffic stops; of those stops, 38 resulted in citations, and 50 warnings were issued. With all those warnings, we must have the nicest cops around!
Two property crimes were reported last week. #1 – Officers responded to the H.E.B. Plus for a report of a shoplifter. A 19-year-old female was arrested for theft. She concealed $335 worth of makeup and baby products in her purse. Little items can add up fast. She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #2 – Officers responded to the Dollar General for a theft. Employees reported that earlier in the day, a person took a beer valued at $4. I am sure that the evidence was long gone by the time we were notified.
There were two arrests. #1 – Was the female from H.E.B. Plus. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 51-year-old male for Driving While License Invalid (w/no insurance). He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
I underestimated the music festival this past weekend. The turnout was much better than I expected, and once the sun went down, it was pleasant out there! We had a good selection of music, vendors, and food trucks. I am glad to report that we didn’t have any crimes or issues reported with the event.
We have had some recent problems with the train breaking down and blocking crossings. When this occurs, we respond and try to locate the conductor and see if we can help in any way. This past weekend, the Lytle Fire Dept. even responded and assisted with some tools for the repair. Our mayor is also working closely with Union Pacific Railroad to ensure that any blocked crossings get opened as soon as possible.
If somebody knows Elon Musk (he owns The Boring Company), maybe we could get him to donate to building a tunnel under Lytle, and the train could run through it. It is just another option we could look at.
The city’s Easter Eggs-Travaganza is scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. With events starting at 10:00 AM. The Easter egg hunt is for kids 1-8 years old. The entry fee for the egg hunt is 1 canned good or $1 per child. Folks … that event hasn’t had a price increase in over 25 years! Throw in some free parking and a chance to see the Easter Bunny, and this is a deal you don’t want to pass up. See what they charge you at the mall to take pictures with the Easter Bunny, and you will know what I am talking about.
Special thanks to the Atascosa Masonic Lodge # 379 for providing a free breakfast for area first responders. It was a nice event, and the food was good! I had a few too many carbs; I couldn’t resist the biscuits and gravy.
