Lytle Police Department activity for the week ending February 15, 2026, … Officers handled a total of 66 calls and conducted 61 traffic stops. Of those stops, 24 resulted in citations, and 37 were warnings.
Three property crimes were reported last week. #1 – Someone attempted to steal or burglarize a 2021 F250 at the H.E.B. Plus. The suspect damaged the door handle but fled when the alarm went off. So, there you have it … alarms do work. #2 – Officers responded to St. Andrew Church for a report of a theft. Two brothers, an adult male and a juvenile male, took shoes from the pavilion area where the church collects items and routinely has rummage sales. The church declined to press charges and gave the shoes to the boys. They were both issued criminal trespass notices. Sounds like a good outcome to me. #3 – Officers responded to the H.E.B. Plus for a report of a shoplifter. The suspect had $218 worth of product, including ribeye steak, NY strips, pork belly, ground chuck, and she topped it off with a 40-count package of Friskies cat food. This was on Valentine’s Day; I guess she had a big dinner planned … hopefully the cat food wasn’t going to be used as some sort of filler or a side dish! The 53-year-old female was arrested and booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
There were five arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop on Main St. for speeding resulted in the “cite and release” of a 35-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 – Officers responded to the H.E.B. Plus to check on an unresponsive male in a vehicle. The contact resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old male for public intoxication. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #3 – The 53-year-old lady from the H.E.B. theft. #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old male for D.W.I. and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #5 – A report of a reckless driver near the Taco Bell resulted in the arrest of a 62-year-old male for D.W.I. 3rd or more. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Officers handled two emergency mental health detentions. One was transported to the Camino Real Crisis Center (Lytle), and one was transported to San Antonio Behavioral Hospital.
I missed the grand opening of the Goodwill Store; I drove by a few days later, and the place was packed! It sure was nice seeing that parking lot full. That building had been vacant too long. You can get just about anything there except used underwear.
I have been out of the office lately. Flu ran through the house starting in mid-January. We more or less all recovered, and then I got sick again! The flu evolved into “walking” pneumonia. I had two long weeks at home, with every day being the same. I felt like I was Bill Murray in Groundhog Day (1993), every day just repeating itself. I am back now, fully ready to fight crime and take care of business.
