Lytle Police Department activity for the week ending January 25, 2026, … Officers handled a total of 61 calls and conducted 128 traffic stops. Of those stops, 72 resulted in citations, and 56 were warnings.
We had one property crime incident reported this past week. Two new homes under construction in the Rosewood Estates subdivision had electrical breakers stolen; the loss was valued at $3,500. Unfortunately, when you have a lot of construction (business or residential) it provides an increased opportunity for crooks. We are aware of this and try to work with the builders and developers to stay on top of this.
Officers made three arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop for speeding resulted in a 22-year-old male being cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. for a license plate violation resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old male for D.W.I. (w/open container). The male was booked into the Atascosa County Jail. #3 – Officers received a call about an intoxicated driver headed south on IH-35. The driver exited in Lytle, then headed back onto the interstate. The vehicle almost struck numerous vehicles, including several near miss head on collisions. Capt. Dear, Sgt. D. Lopez, and Ofc./Inv. A. Lopez all responded and attempted to get the vehicle stopped. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on IH-35 in Natalia. The 40-year-old female was arrested for evading arrest with a motor vehicle, further … when booked into the Medina County Jail, “meth” was located hidden on her person. So, she picked up a felony charge of Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility. Thank God that our officers were able to get this driver off the road. This is a good example of how our officers respond to high stress situations and get the job taken care of.
I was scheduled to be in Huntsville all this week for my required Texas Police Chief Leadership Training. Due to the weather, the event was postponed. My team knew I was looking forward to the training, so they were visibly “sad” for me when they learned I wouldn’t be gone all week.
Ofc. P. Tafolla was making his patrols on FM 2790 N. near Blume Dr. when a deer ran into his patrol unit. Luckily, there was no damage to the patrol unit, and the deer fled the scene. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor (the deer, not the officer).
It has certainly been cold … fortunately, it looks like our city made it through without any issues. Special thanks to all the firefighters, police officers, emergency management teams, and public works employees who stayed busy this weekend keeping us safe.
