Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - December 8, 2025

Monday, December 8, 2025
We have uploaded the weekly report to our website www.lytletx.org/police. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach me at our office number (830-709-0277) or by email at richard.priest@lytletx.org. There will be a regular city council meeting tonight (Monday, Dec.8) at 6:30 PM, and the location is City Hall. Feel free to stop by and check it out.

Here we go … The call volume was down last week; officers handled 44 calls for service. They also conducted 70 traffic stops; 32 of those stops resulted in citations, and the remaining 38 were issued warnings.
There were no thefts reported last week. We did have one report where an unknown driver struck a stop sign and damaged a fence at the corner of Magnolia & Florence. Officers took a report of illegal dumping on Railroad St. Somebody figured that the side of the road would be a good place to dump an old mattress.
Officers conducted 4 arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a 54-year-old male for D.W.I. and Felon in Possession of a firearm. #2 – A traffic stop on the access road of IH-35 resulted in the arrest of a 46-year-old male for Driving While License Suspended. # 3 – A traffic stop for running a stop sign on the access road resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old male for possession of marijuana vape pens. #4 – A traffic stop on the access road of IH-35 resulted in the “cite and release” of a 20-year-old male for minor in possession of a tobacco product.
Please contact City Hall if you have any questions on your water bill. The city’s billing support contractor will be talking to council tonight to highlight the issues.
The hayride is this coming Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Lytle Community Center. The first run is set to pull out at 6 PM, so get there early as the trailers will start loading at 5:30 PM! Admission is one canned good or $1.
No pets please, we’ve had a few issues in the past and kindly ask you do not bring your pet(s) on the hayride.
There are a few changes for this year. Santa’s Playhouse will be at the Community Center; there will be numerous activities for the kids, and Santa will be there, too!
We also changed the route slightly. Here is a link to the map https://www.lytletx.org/DocumentCenter/View/3413/2025-Hayride-Map?bidId=    If your business or home is along the route, feel free to cheer on the hayride as they pass. Do you have more questions? Contact City Hall … we just provide the police escort and work to keep the event safe. We have the hayride since 1999. I was at the first one and we ran it out of the city hall parking lot. We did miss one or two because of the weather, and it was modified during COVID as a “vehicle” parade. Other than the lead driver taking a wrong turn once or twice, we have never had any problems. Let’s keep the streak going!
As a reminder, the city has an ordinance that requires you to pick up your dog’s feces in public spaces. We responded to a report of this violation at John Lott Park last week. Most people aren’t aware of the ordinance. If it becomes a bigger problem, we might deploy our drone on operation “Dog Poop Patrol.”  Sorry, if I had more time, I could produce a better name.
