For the week ending Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025 – Lytle P.D. officers generated 62 calls for service and conducted 61 traffic stops. Of those 61 stops, 31 resulted in citations and 30 were warnings.
There were three (3) property crimes reported last week. #1 – A complainant reported that their wallet was lost/stolen at the H.E.B. Plus. The contents included credit cards, a DL, and $130 in cash. #2 – Max and Mel’s (15100 Main St.) reported that a Halloween decoration (a skeleton) valued at $75 was stolen. #3 – A “rare” smash and grab occurred at the El Bufalo Pawn Shop, Saturday, around noon, when two suspects entered the pawn shop, after looking around, broke out a glass case, and grabbed about 15 gold necklaces. They fled north to San Antonio in a small black pickup.
Officers made seven (7) arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop on Wyatt Earp resulted in a 19-year-old male being cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the cite and release of a 25-year-old female for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3 – A 39-year-old male was arrested for Criminal Trespass at the Whataburger. He had been previously given a criminal trespass notice. #4 – A traffic stop on the IH-35 access road near FM 3175 resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old male for D.W.I. #5 – The Whataburger drive-thru strikes again! Officers responded to the Whataburger drive-thru for a report of a male passed out behind the wheel. After an investigation, a 39-year-old male was arrested for D.W.I. #6 – Officers initiated a traffic stop on the IH-35 access road. When the driver opted to run! He ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. He was located hiding under a car on Lytle-Somerset St. Be warned … I have some night shift guys that can run and jump; they catch a lot of people. I am not a runner or a jumper; I am more of an emailer. #7 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the cite and release of a 25-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Our time frame for accepting applications for our open position closed on Friday. The good news is I have a stack of applications on my desk; the bad news is that they are blank! Yes, it is true … we didn’t get one single applicant. It’s not surprising that there are a lot of Peace Officer positions open. The huge growth in the San Antonio Metro area equates to the need for more Deputy Sheriffs, Municipal Police, as well as the increase in ISD Police Departments and School Resource Officers. We offer good pay, good benefits, good equipment, and a stable municipal government. Though one person on Facebook commented that they thought it was odd for a small department to require a polygraph. My response to that is that we use that tool to ensure we get only the best officers for our department. Another commented that the pay was good, but the Chief was “weird.” Well, I must agree with them on that point. We will regroup and re-advertise in early January.
Halloween was busy; the town was bustling with people. Ofc./Inv. A. Lopez and I spent a few hours on our e-bikes. One of our first stops was the Saddle Ridge subdivision. I felt like I was on the set where they were filming a Hallmark movie! Nice houses lined up in a row, people set up in almost every driveway with candy, and lots of kids crisscrossing in the streets.
We had a decent amount of activity on all our streets. Overall, it was another safe Halloween.
What is next … Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 13. That is the date for our Christmas Hayride. This is one of the most popular events the city sponsors. An annual event for about 25 years. The process is simple: show up at the community center and get in line for the hayride.
We will travel through Lytle, looking at the lights and Christmas decorations as we go. Sometimes we make as many as three trips, depending on the number of people who show up. It’s fun, and almost free. The usual cost is $1 per person or a donated “canned” good. We start at 6 PM, more details to follow.
The city, in partnership with Waste Management, will be offering two drop-off sites for bulky waste this Saturday (Nov. 8). The time is 9 AM – 11 AM, and the locations are the Lytle City Hall and the Lytle H.S. Parking lot. Contact the city hall for details; you will need proof that you live in the city.
Also on Saturday, Nov. 8, the Lytle Public Library will be having a Book and Craft sale from 9 AM – 1 PM. In preparation for this event, the library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 7.
What a couple of great opportunities, get rid of a bunch of bulk junk, and then head to the library and buy some stuff to fill up the empty spot your junk was occupying.
