Today (Monday, Oct. 13th, 2025) is a City Holiday; city offices are closed. Due to the city holiday on the second Monday, the city council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14th at 6:30 PM.
For the week ending Sunday, Oct. 12th … Lytle P.D. Officers handled 35 calls for service and conducted 45 traffic stops. Of those stops, 13 were citations, and the remaining 32 were either verbal or written warnings. So, for those numbers, it was a slow week.
We had 2 property crimes reported last week … #1 - L.P.D. officers responded to the 702 Tejas Bar and Grill (15300 Main St.) for a report of a burglary. The suspect cut his way in through the metal building and was able to gain access to an ATM. The case is under investigation. #2 – The attempted break-in of an ATM at TXN Bank. See arrest #5 for more information.
L.P.D. officers had 7 arrests last week. #1 – Ofc. P. Tafolla stopped a vehicle on Main St. for speeding. The 18-year-old male driver had over 6 ounces of marijuana! Anything over 4 ounces is a felony. He also had an active warrant out of Bexar County for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Excellent job! Officers R. Garcia and L. Diaz assisted him. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. by Ofc. J. Cortez resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old male for D.W.I. Ofc. Cortez was assisted by Ofc. P. Tafolla. #3 – While investigating a burglary at 702 Tejas, Capt. M. Dear and Ofc. S. Mendez determined that a 40-year-old female had an active warrant out of Pardons and Parole for a parole violation with the original charge of Intoxication Assault. #4 – A call to the Stripes C-Store about a driver sleeping behind the wheel resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old for D.W.I.
#5 – Officers were dispatched to a report of occupants wearing ski masks parked at the ATM at the TXN Bank. Ofc. J. Cortez arrived, and the suspects fled in a vehicle. A pursuit was initiated; the suspects made a big loop and came to a stop near the Lytle State Bank. The driver, a 25-year-old male, fled on foot but was arrested. He was booked on numerous charges, including evading arrest with a motor vehicle, felony criminal mischief – impair or interrupt an ATM, along with a couple of additional misdemeanors. There were two other occupants; they fled and were not located. We deployed our drone to aid in the search for our suspects. We determined this to be an organized group hitting ATMs. Investigators from the Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center have already met with our officers.
More arrests … #6 – A 56-year-old female was cited and released for assault by contact after officers responded to a disturbance on Huckleberry St. #7 – A 34-year-old male was arrested for possession of synthetic urine to falsify a drug test.
The homecoming parade is less than two weeks out! Join us on Saturday, Oct. 25th, on Main St. for this epic event. The floats start rolling in at 10:00 AM. Please expect Main St. and access to numerous businesses to be closed or limited for approximately. an hour. The weather forecast looks good, but I don’t think everyone will be sipping hot chocolate by then. Maybe by the time of our hayride (Dec. 13th), we will have some chilly weather.
Our National Night Out event went off very well. We had a great turnout with about 25 businesses or organizations set up for attendees! Special thanks to the Lytle VFW and their Auxiliary, who cooked and served over 300 hot dogs. Our public safety partners in attendance included Atascosa Co. EMS, Lytle Fire, Atascosa Co. Constable Pct. 2, Medina Co. Sheriff’s Office, Atascosa Co. Attorney Molly Solis and her Chief Investigator, Atascosa Co. Sheriff Jake Guerra and his entourage (Deputy Chief Eric Kaiser). Other elected officials included Atascosa Co. Commissioner Pct. 2 Mark Bowen, our very own Mayor Ruben Gonzalez, and Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Wayne Vaughn.
An interesting note is that Wayne’s wife, Christi, started up the NNO in Lytle. She held it for several years at their property on Adams St. Once she worked out all the kinks, I stepped in and took it over.
We had great support from many of our local businesses and have too many to list! We had representatives from Lytle ISD, various religious leaders, and more! I didn’t do so great with food choices. Lytle State Bank had those little mini packs of Pringles; I hit that scene a couple of times. TXN Bank had corn in a cup, and I couldn’t resist. I justified it by saying it was a way to get even with all the overdraft charges I paid to both banks through the years. I think the banks are still ahead!
