Here is your weekly dose of Lytle P.D. activity and other related news that, many times, is of little importance. For the week ending Sunday, September 28 … Officers handled 54 service calls, which is on the low side. A total of 73 traffic stops were made, 35 resulted in citations, and 38 were warnings.
Officers arrested 6 people last week. #1 – A traffic stop for speeding on S. Somerset St. resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old male for D.W.I. (1st Offense). #2 - A traffic stop on N. Somerset St. for “driving off the roadway” resulted in the arrest of a 70-year-old male for D.W.I. (2nd Offense). #3 – Officers arrested a 50-year-old male for trespassing at the Stripes. #4 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the “cite and release” of a 21-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #5 – A traffic stop on S. Somerset St, for driving in the wrong lane, resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old female for D.W.I. (1st Offense). #6 – A vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree at the intersection of Oak St. and S. Prairie, resulting in the arrest of a 26-year-old male for D.W.I. (1st Offense). I am very proud of our officers; they work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
We had three property crimes reported last week. #1 – An unknown male did a “beer and chip” run at the Stripes. He made off with about $42 worth of product. Wow, when I started in law enforcement $42 worth of beer would take a whole team of people to steal. #2 – A shoplifter fled the Dollar General with beer, beef patties, bread, and chips … with a total value of $25! That sounds like a real value-based theft meal deal. #3 – A complainant reported that his 55” TV and three drum symbols were taken from his storage unit on N. Somerset St. I would say our crooks left H.E.B. alone this week, but officers responded to what would have been a theft. H.E.B. staff were on top of it, and the suspects could see they were being watched; they abandoned their full basket and departed.
Don’t forget about our Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 25. It will be held on Main St. and will start at 10:00 AM. There will be a temporary road closure, so plan accordingly.
Next Tuesday (Oct. 7th) is our National Night Out event. It will be held at the Lytle Community Center at 19031 Priest Blvd. from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Join us for free food, drinks, and snacks. Stop by and say hello, meet your public safety team that works to keep our city safe.
St. Andrew's church had their annual festival this past weekend. For the first time in history, they made it a two-day event. They always hire some of us to work off-duty security for them. From the public safety side, there were no issues, no problems, and I didn’t win anything in the raffle. In other words, it was just like it always is!
I spent most of my time directing traffic on Main St. and helping people cross the street. A white car sped by and almost struck me, thankfully, Capt. Dear was next to me. He acted quickly and pulled me out of harm’s way. He very well may have saved my life. I thanked him and told him that if he hadn’t acted so quickly, he would most likely have received an instant promotion to Chief of Police. The look on his face made me think he was second-guessing his action.
