Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - August 25, 2025

August 25, 2025
Hello all -
We have uploaded our weekly report to our website  www.lytletx.org/police. Scroll to the bottom and click on “Current Weekly Report.”  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach me at our office number (830-709-0277) or by email at richard.priest@lytletx.org. There will be a regular city council meeting tonight (Monday, August 25th @ 6 PM) at Lytle City Hall.

Here is a snapshot of what went on at Lytle P.D. last week … Officers handled 48 calls for service and conducted 99 traffic stops. Of those 99 stops, 61 were warnings and 38 were citations.
There was a total of seven arrests last week. For the sake of time and space, five of them were the result of four separate contacts and resulted in the “cite and release” for possession of drug paraphernalia. Those cited included an 18-year-old male, a 22-year-old male, a 21-year-old male, an 18-year-old male, and an 18-year-old female. So, a bunch of young ones this week.
Two arrestees made the trip to the county jail in Jourdanton. #1 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old male for possession of a controlled substance (felony). #2 – Officers observed a wanted person travelling in a vehicle on Main St. The 51-year-old male was arrested on an active warrant we had obtained for Disorderly Conduct. The suspect displayed a handgun in a manner to cause alarm at the Whataburger Drive Thru.
We did not have any property crimes reported last week!
If you are around Lytle this coming holiday weekend, you can expect to see an increased police presence. Starting on Friday and running through Monday (Labor Day), we will have extra staff “on the road.” Officers will be “out and about” looking for traffic violators, impaired drivers, and in general keeping the holiday weekend safe. For many years, it was common for me to schedule extra people on holiday weekends. I think I really got away from it when COVID hit, and the circumstances were different. I will be out as well; I made the commitment and won’t be hanging out at the office. My goal is to stay out on the road as much as possible for all four of those days. Sometimes I don’t know where I come up with these ideas.
What else is going on … The St. Andrew Catholic Church has a two-day music festival planned for Saturday, Sept. 27, and Sunday, Sept. 28! With that comes their annual raffle. I always buy tickets and seldom, if ever, have won. I am hoping this year will be different! If you need tickets, call Pablo Cortez at 210-440-0110, but he said not to call him early in the morning. I guess he sleeps late, I thought all old people got up early.
Now, let’s move from September to October. Tuesday, Oct. 7, is our annual National Night Out. We will be at the community center from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. We will be providing food and drinks. We will have our drone there as well as our two electric bikes for you to check out. By “check out,” I mean to take a look at … not “checkout” like you do a library book. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Lytle Ex-Students Association, in conjunction with the City of Lytle, will host their “once every two years” homecoming parade. The parade starts at 10 A.M. Hopefully, the weather will be nice. We will shut down Main St. for an hour or so. This event is always very popular; get there early to secure a good spot.
