CORRECTION: Board Vacancies Applications Due on March 31st
For two weeks, the city is accepting applications for Norcross Public Arts Commission, Sustainable Norcross Commission, Planning & Zoning, Discovery Garden Board, and Tree Preservation Board.
The Norcross Public Arts Commission is responsible for cultivating a growing, creative arts community in Norcross and advising the city regarding arts and culture matters. They meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Sustainable Norcross Commission purpose is to advise Mayor and Council on environmental sustainability, assist the city in maintaining platinum certification in the ARC Green Communities program, educate and inspire Norcross residents and businesses to be leaders in sustainability and develop and implement new sustainability innovations in our community. They meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
The Planning & Zoning Board makes recommendations to the City Council on rezoning applications, special use permits and changes to the city’s Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Ordinance. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Please note, residency in Norcross is a requirement of this position.
The Discovery Garden Board inspire lifelong curiosity, understanding and appreciation of nature through organic gardening, education and demonstration and to provide a place of beauty for Norcross residents and visitors. They meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 pm, at the Discovery Garden Park, 189 Lawrenceville Street. However, in the case of inclement weather, we will meet at an alternate location to be determined.
The Tree Preservation Board is established to assist the Community Development Department in interpreting and enforcing the provisions of the Tree Protection, Buffers and Landscape Ordinance in the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (Article V, Chapter 200) and to advise the mayor and City Council on matters pertaining to the preservation of trees and conservation of tree canopy cover within the city. They meet bi-monthly, 2nd Wednesday, 10:00 a.m.
